Universidad del Rosario is a Colombian higher education institution with academic tradition, research focus, and a commitment to forming leaders with social impact. esinergia client since 2022.
Universidad del Rosario served students, faculty, alumni, and the general public from an ecosystem on Kentico that was costing more than it was delivering.
Universidad del Rosario has been an esinergia client since 2022. What follows describes not only the technical migration from Kentico, but what more than four years of continuous operation reveal: when a university operates several portals over years, the question stops being how to launch them and becomes how to sustain them under a common criterion. Universidad del Rosario reached that point with fronts that had grown separately and a platform that did not enable either editorial evolution or coherence across portals.
The design and experience of each portal were difficult to evolve on Kentico, with a smaller technical community and less flexibility, support and maintenance accumulated growing cost and risk without proportional return, and there was no common technical foundation that allowed managing and scaling the portals coherently. On top of that, the site suffered recurrent downtime during demand spikes that the previous infrastructure could not absorb. Beyond the institutional portal, the University required a virtual campus for the digital academic experience, thematic subsites for programs and schools such as FACREA, spaces for the alumni community such as Reconectando, open education platforms such as Masterclass and Opencourse, and an independent portal for continuing education. A university ecosystem with diverse audiences and demands that had to operate under a coherent architecture.
01 Challenge
A multisite university ecosystem on Drupal and Acquia
We architected and migrated Universidad del Rosario's digital ecosystem from Kentico to a multisite enterprise platform on Drupal and Acquia Cloud Platform, distributed across two coordinated codebases. The first runs the University's main portal alongside strategic subsites for the virtual campus, FACREA, Reconectando, Masterclass, and Opencourse; the second runs the continuing education portal with its own editorial cycle. We migrated close to 8,000 content items from the legacy CMS, which after an editorial curation process were consolidated into close to 6,000 active items on Drupal. The portal operates on a component-based model documented in Storybook, with CRM integrations, centralized sign-on with Office 365, and high availability on Acquia Cloud that sustains 24/7 operation without downtime in contrast to the previous history of unabsorbed demand spikes, and with no security incidents in four years of operation.
One nuance worth naming: the hard part of migrating portals that grew separately over years is not technical at first. It is about governance. Before moving a single page, you have to align the owner areas on how content gets structured and governed once they all share the same foundation. That work of ordering before moving is what separates a migration that lasts from one that breaks again within a year.

+71.8% growth in total users and +53% in interaction-time optimization, sustained on an ecosystem with more than four years of continuous operation.
The underlying result is not the migration itself. It is that Universidad del Rosario went from administering separate portals on Kentico to operating a coherent digital ecosystem on Drupal and Acquia. The strategic subsites share component architecture and editorial governance, the owner areas work under a single criterion, and the ecosystem absorbs new subsites without being rebuilt. Performance is sustained on verifiable Google Analytics data: user growth, interaction-time optimization, and continuous availability. Three results sustain that observation.
03 Result
+71.8%
Growth in total users after the migration to Drupal and Acquia Cloud, per Google Analytics, enabled by resource scalability that sustains demand spikes the previous infrastructure could not absorb.
+53%
Optimization of average user interaction time, per Google Analytics, enabled by Drupal performance and the content-optimization tools that accelerate access to information.
+4
Stat 3, Text: Years of continuous operation on Drupal and Acquia Cloud with sustained 24/7 availability, no security incidents, and progressive stack modernization. The platform was not delivered and left untouched: it operates and evolves.
